How Color Theory Can Propel Your Political Campaign to the Podium

Colory Theory Political Graphic Design

The election is right around the corner, and that means for the last handful of months, political candidates and hopefuls have been hot on the political campaign trail. If you think the journey is over, you’ve still got time between now and election day to get more voters on your side.

Everything you will do as a political candidate is calculated and thoroughly thought through right down to the colors you wear and use throughout their campaign. Still not sure what we mean?

Continue reading to find out everything you need to know regarding color theory’s power and how it applies to your road to the podium.

What Is Color Theory?

Color theory is the notion that when a person sees certain colors, it causes them to feel specific emotions. When those emotions are felt, the person being affected can then be swayed to make a specific decision or be led closer to making a decision.

Candidates seeking political positions use colors to sway people one step closer to voting for them. The more you expose people to the colors, the more they’ll identify with, and connect to, your political brand.

Red

Of course, red is one of the classic colors used by political candidates frequently. The reason that red is commonly used is that it’s a symbol of power and drive.

This is important because, as a political hopeful, it helps you appear strong, especially when it comes to your views and the stances that you’ve taken.

Blue

Again, another color is used throughout the political campaign trail. Blue makes those that are looking upon it feel as if the person wearing it is trustworthy. Depending on what you’re talking about, wearing blue can help you gain the trust of those listening to you.

Gray

When you’re looking to sway people to believe in you and your cause, one thing you need on your side is power. When used correctly, gray shows that you’ve got not only power but also authority.

This will help voters believe that you’ve got the power to do the things you say you’re going to do.

Nontraditional Colors

If you want to use a mixture of colors, it’s apparent that you want to stand out. Sometimes nontraditional colors can even help you connect with an audience tired of seeing reds and blues everywhere.

Purple hues sometimes give a regal feeling and is historically associated with royalty. Mixing greens and blues together can connect voters to feelings of nature with green trees and blue water and skies.

Sometimes certain colors are used to identify with specific locations. For instance, a candidate from Maryland might want to choose a color scheme of red, yellow and black to connect with the state flag. And a candidate from Vermont might want to incorporate green to reference the Green Mountain State.

Being nontraditional when selecting your color palette can make or break your campaign depending on who you have designing your political logo.
